Quinta da Salada is located in the parish of Cambres, municipality of Lamego. The central nucleus of Quinta da Salada is the Main House. Around it lies the chapel, the “Casa dos Caseiros”, the orange grove and the colossal cypress. Quinta da Salada has been in the family for several generations and is linked by family ties from Pinto de Almeida to neighboring Quinta do Fojo, Quinta da Chaminé́ and Quinta da Casa Amarela in Rio Bom.
The chapel is dated to the beginning of the century. XVIII and has as patron saint N. Sra. Da Boa Nova that already existed in the century. XIII with the name of Santa Maria de Terena and in the century. XVI as Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres.
The name Salada dates back to the 14th century. to the “battle of Salado” that definitively defeated the Moors and spread enthusiasm for European Christianity. The battle is called Salado because it was fought by a river with that name, where is now the province of Cádiz.
The origin of the name Boa Nova is linked to the legend because D. Maria, Queen of Castile and daughter of the King of Portugal D. Afonso IV, asked her father for help in the battle (of Salado) against the Moors. The King will have acceded to the request of the daughter and the two went, father and daughter with the army already assembled for Castile. D. Maria takes the good news to her husband, who thus festively welcomes the Portuguese sovereign and his wife, dissolving some resentments from past disagreements. The Good News will derive from the Good News that D. Maria took to Alfonso XI of Castile.
Ultimately, the battle of Salado, decided the fate of the Iberian peninsula.
Later, in recognition of a nobleman who fought with him in the battle of Salado, Afonso IV offers these lands that bear the name of Terras do Salado and that later come to Quinta da Salada, as it is called today.

Quinta facilities
Main House
The House built at the beginning of the 18th century, underwent a major remodeling in 2006, it is the current residence of the owners and where the areas adapted for the wine tourism activity are located (Old mills and Warehouse - ground floor ):
Wine Bar
The old wine presses, located on the ground floor of the Quinta's house, have been totally transformed into a refined and comfortable space, mixing the rusticity of the traditional schist walls and the slate floor with the modernity of the panels in lacquered wood. Ideal for holding wine events - Promotion of wines / wine tasting
Adega/Barrels warehouse
Adega/Barrels warehouse located on the ground floor of the “Casa dos Caseiros”, maintains the warehouse characteristics, with stone walls, traditional in the Douro. These medium-sized spaces with a capacity of up to 30 Pax is ideal for holding various events, such as traditional meals and wine tasting.
Chapel
The Chapel is detached from the house, and is small in size, not showing the main altar, dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Boa Nova, since it was donated by the family that owns Quinta da Salada (Pinto de Almeida and Vasques Osório), in the years from 1930 - 1940, to the Lamego Museum. It has the following characteristics: “Carved altarpiece in“ Joanine style ”, with a great scenic effect, decorated with Atlanteans, winged heads,“ putti ”, baldachines, valances, cards, acanthus leaves, sunflowers and garlands. The set also completes a stool consisting of a seat cross and four candlesticks, on the altar table, and two corbels. ” This altar dates from 1700 - 1750, as it corresponds in formal and stylistic terms to the carving produced in the first half of the 18th century. This altar is made of carved brown wood. Measures Height 600 cm, and Width 360 cm. ”
The altarpiece is in an exhibition room at the Lamego Museum.
Casa dos Caseiros
Casa dos Caseiros, recently remodeled and adapted for Rural Tourism activity. In this building, 6 comfortable rooms with private bathrooms were created where people can stay comfortably. The rooms have been decorated with an exquisite blend of modernity, simplicity, functionality and rurality that connect them to the extensive Douro valleys visible through their windows.
Traditional kitchen
Traditional kitchen, furnished and decorated in a typical Douro style kitchen, with a large chimney, wood oven and equipped with modern appliances. This space is suitable for traditional meals to be prepared and served here, to be held small meetings accompanied by wine / gastronomic sessions, as well as wine tasting, showcooking and where breakfast is served to guests in an environment.
Orange Grove
In the front of the main house there is a generous orange grove, ideal place to enjoy an orange, a glass of wine or simply relax on the hammock or on the iron bed / sofa.
Cypress Lounge
Cypress Lounge: The Quinta has a large cedar tree, which will have many years in that place, close to the family house and which has been accompanying the various generations of the family for over 200 years. This space was also involved, to create an outdoor lounge, great for relaxing and enjoying a glass of wine, reading a book or simply contemplating the landscape.
Porch
The porch where agricultural tools were stored has now been transformed into a cozy lounge, ideal for cooler nights or winter days.
Pool
The pool for seasonal and exclusive use of guests, with depth ranging from 1.10m to 1.65m, equipped with modern and comfortable outdoor furniture.
